FAQs
Goggles & Glasses
Are your lenses interchangeable?
Yes! All our lenses are fully interchangeable so you can quickly adapt to changing weather and light conditions. We offer everything from clear lenses for low light situations to dark tints for bright sunny days.
What does VLT mean?
VLT stands for Visible Light Transmission, the percentage of light that passes through the lens. Higher VLT (like 85% clear lenses) is better for low light conditions, while lower VLT (like 15-17% sun lenses) is ideal for bright, sunny days.
Do your products offer UV protection?
Yes! All our lenses provide 100% UV protection to keep your eyes safe from harmful rays.
What does "Filter Cat" mean?
Filter Category (Cat 0-4) indicates lens darkness. Cat 0 is clear for night/low light, Cat 1-2 for overcast conditions, Cat 3 for bright sun, and Cat 4 for extreme brightness eg glaciers.
Do you offer photochromatic lenses?
Yes! Our photochromatic lenses automatically adjust from Cat 0 (83% VLT) in low light to Cat 3 (15% VLT) in bright conditions, giving you one lens that adapts to changing light throughout the day.
Lens compatibility
Are Nita and Nita 2 lenses compatible?
Yes! Nita Glasses lenses are compatible with both original Nita and Nita 2 frames, making it easy to swap between different lens options.
Can I use Alta MTB lenses with Alta 2 goggles?
Unfortunately not, Alta MTB lenses are only compatible with Alta MTB goggles. They are not compatible with the Alta 2 goggle.
Orders & Shipping
Where do you ship from?
We're based in Whistler, BC, Canada. All products are designed and tested here in the mountains.
What's included with my goggles or glasses?
Each pair includes the frame, lens (plus an additional clear lens with some models), and a recycled microfibre bag for storage and cleaning. Check individual product pages for specific inclusions.
What are your shipping and processing times?
Orders typically ship within 1-3 business days. Shipping times vary depending on your location, Canadian orders usually arrive within 3-7 business days while international orders may take 7-14 business days. You'll receive a tracking number via email once your order ships.
Care & Maintenance
How do I clean my lenses?
Use the included microfibre bag to gently wipe your lenses. Never use paper towels or rough materials as they can scratch the anti-fog and anti-scratch coatings. Try not to wipe the inside of the lens when wet as this can damage the anti-fog coating. More information can be found on our Product Care page.
How do I change my lenses?
Lens changes are quick and easy! Check out our lens change guides here for step-by-step instructions specific to your model.
Sustainability
What materials do you use?
We're committed to sustainability. Our Nita frames use a Bio-TR90 (50% Bio-based content), Alta 2 features bio-based frame content and replaceable recycled polyester strap. Lastly, our apparel uses recycled polyester, modal wood fibre and organic cotton. We also avoid any plastic packaging. Learn more on our Materials page.
Can I recycle my old Coast Optics products?
Yes, we're always working on ways to improve our end-of-life product solutions. More information can be found on our Recycling and Circularity page.
Are your products designed to last?
Absolutely. We design all our products in Whistler and test them in real mountain conditions to ensure durability. Our interchangeable lens and strap system means you can keep running the same frame without buying multiple pairs of goggles, and our quality materials are built to withstand years of use.
Anti-Fog Technology
How do I prevent my goggles from fogging?
All our lenses come with anti-fog coating as standard. To maximize performance, avoid touching the inside of the lens, ensure proper ventilation, and don't store goggles in damp conditions. If fogging occurs, let them air dry naturally rather than wiping the inside.
What should I do if my goggles fog up while riding?
Stop in a safe location and allow air to circulate through the goggles. If needed, gently shake off excess moisture. Try not to wipe the inside of the lens when wet as this can damage the anti-fog coating.
Fit & Sizing
What's the difference between Nita 2 and Nita XL?
Nita XL features a larger lens height and a 2mm wider frame for those who prefer more coverage or have larger faces, while Nita 2 offers our standard fit. Both models offer the same great features including interchangeable lenses and anti-fog technology.
Will the Alta 2 goggles fit my helmet?
The Alta 2 goggles are designed to fit in nearly all full-face mountain bike helmets. The frame dimensions and outriggers ensure a comfortable, secure fit. If you have a specific helmet compatibility question, feel free to contact us.
Can I wear my glasses under the goggles?
Alta 2 goggles are designed with enough internal volume and a cut out in the foam to accommodate most prescription glasses comfortably. However, fit may vary depending on your glasses size.
Apparel
How do your tech tees fit?
Our Lost Tech Tees feature a classic fit. Not too tight, not too loose. They're designed for all-day comfort.
How should I care for my Coast Optics apparel?
Machine wash cold with like colors and hang dry to extend the life of your garment. Avoid fabric softeners and bleach. Our sustainable materials are durable but will last longer with proper care.
